Top 5 Places to watch Great Hornbill in India -
In India, Hornbills only found in Northeastern part of India. There are many wildlife sanctuaries or national parks has abundance of Great Hornbill especially in Nagaland, Assam and West Bengal ( Northern Part). Hornbills are like the version of beautiful Toucan of South America and sometimes people can find similarities in their looks especially Great Hornbill.
Here I am to describe the top 5 places to watch Great Honrbill in Northeastern part of India.
1. Kaziranga National Park
This national park is the most famous forest reserve in North-east India. According to many photographers, this place has the best scenery or background needed for a photograph.
Kaziranga is mostly famous for its Tigers and One Horned Rhinoceros nut it is also a bird watching paradise to many. This park has a great number of Great Hornbill. You can watch it mostly in the woodland part of the park.
2. Buxa Tiger Reserve
This Tiger reserve is the closest to my city. I always visit the park because it is just 8 to 10 km from where I live. I can tell you that you will 100 % able to see this bird especially in Shikari Gate or Core forest area with a safari.
Great Hornbill presents here in large number and even rarer Wrethed Hornbill. Buxa Tiger Reserve is known for its birds abundance even more species of birds presents here than Kaziranga National Park.
3. Jaldapara National Park
This park is close to Buxa Tiger Reserve or adjutant with chilapata forest range which is a part of Jaldapara. This park is known for its One Horned Rhinoceros and Black beers,etc.
This park has abundance of birds as well including Great Hornbill.
4. Intanki National Park
This is the best or most abundant bio diversified national park in Nagaland. Apparently, though Nagaland have hornbill festival but its not the state bird rather Arunachal Pradesh where i have not visited yet.
Intanki National Park has abundance of wildlife species like Elephants, Bengal Tigers or blyth's tragopan. Great Hornbill presents in large number here.
5. Raimona National Park
This is a hidden gem in Assam state of India. I have recently visited and found great hornbill alongside pied hornbill. Place is full with wild birds including great cormorant, black baza, shaheen falcons,etc. Clean hills of Bhutan near and shiny river flowing from the mountain will just give a chill vibe on the way in safari.
