I was searching for a quite place with the scenic view, bird chirps and whispering winter. After the search, It brings me to the land of buddhism where I got what I wanted. I traveled from my hometown Alipurduar with my friends. It took us around 5 hours to reach there. The roads were quite stiff and dengerous but we reached the destination during monsoon. Rain creates hindrance and saw the dangerous landslide but it could not stopped us. We reached and see the monumental beauty of Buddha.

You are wondering about the place for which we take so much risk, am I right? The place know as "Ravangla". It is situated in South Sikkim and Buddha Park situated there which can enlighten a traveler. Ravangla buddha get heavy crowded during Autumn and Spring but we got here during monsoon.

How to reach Ravangla?

If you are coming from Alipurduar, then take NH 31 and get to Sevok and from there take the route kalimpong district and go through Namchi to reach there.

From Kolkata, come to NJP/ Siliguri Junction, get into Darjeeling more, Go to Darjeeling and then Jorethang then Ravangla.

What is Ravangla famous for?

Ravangla mostly famous for its Buddha Park (A 130 feet statue of Mahatma Buddha). The ticket price for entering Buddha Park is 85 rupees each.
Surrounding landscape is quite amazing and beautiful and You can see Kanchanjangha peak from most Homestays or Hotels.

Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary -

This is probably the hidden gem in Ravangla and fortunately the hotel where we stayed is in the opposite direction of the gateway to Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary
This Sanctuary has diverse range of Bio-diversity which includes the rare Red Panda and Clouded leopard.
It boast many other animals like Mountain Goat Goral, Serow, Barking Deer, Himalyan Black Bear, Leopard Cat even snow leopard in high altitude ( Chance is extremely dim for Snow leopard).
It has various Himalayan birds like Rufous Sibia, Hill Partridge and Black Eagle;etc.
Unfortunately, the season was monsoon so we could not entere the sanctuary.

The People of Ravangla are very friendly and the culture is vibrant with Buddhist cuisine and tradition. I like the attire they wear and price of beer is high but the quality is better than almost every plain places in India. The cost of wood based gift items inside Buddha park is from 70 RS to 500 RS.
There are many restaurant which provides both Veg and Non Veg items. Crime rate is low due to cold and high altitude and buddist mindset. There are several communities lives like Lepcha, Newari, Gurung, Mangar, Nepali, Sherpa and Sunwar;etc.
They are hardworking individuals. If you get a wife from there it will be a Win. 😁

Final Verdict -

It is worth visiting because of the beautiful landscape, Diverse culture and Widlife for photography. It is safe and clean which will give quite travel vibes or eco friendly tour.
