Ever wondered about a place where Elephant roams freely inside the village, Leopards crates terror in the tea estates and Gaurs smash people inside the Jungle but still have a place which gives silence with sounds of thousands birds.
There is a place which is near Buxa Tiger Reserve and that is called Rashikbil Bird Sanctuary. This place falls in between Alipurduar district and Coochbihar district but politically under Coochbihar district.
First question comes in mind is how to reach Rashikbil Bird Sanctuary 😕
Beyond gajoldba Article by me about bird wathing places
Rashikbil Distance from Alipurduar -
Rashikbil is not far from Alipurdaur because during my childhood I used to travel there with cycle. It is around 32 Km from Alipurduar main town. You have to go through chaparerpar, Bhatibari then turn right then go straight in the way to Tufanganj.
Rashikbil Picnic Spot -
Rashikbil picnic spot is inside the Rashikbil Bird Sanctuary which is located in the Tufanganj. This is a 175 hector large wetland and lake. People come here for picnic during winter season especially in January.
If you are an introvert then don't come here during 1st January and 26 January. You may not be able to birds or other animals here because of extreme people gathering.
What is the Best time to visit Rashikbil Bird Sanctuary -
If you are a photographer then I suggest to visit the sanctuary during January to March for the arrival of migratory birds like tufted duck, red crested poachard, Lesser whistling duck, cotton pygmy goose;etc.
For casual tourists, almost every time of the year is same but during rainy season the park may remain closed or need to avoided as flood can occur.
What animals live in Rashikbil?
There are plenty of animal in the park but those are in captivity but with broader area than a actual zoo. Animals includes Indian leopard, Spotted Deer, Macaw, Khalij Pheasent, Blood Pheasent, Burmese Python, King Cobra and Monitor Lizard;etc.
The birds are freely moving in the park that includes local birds like flycatchers, owls, herons, egrets, barbets, kingfishers, cormorants;etc.
